It's hard to fathom that someone can get away with what he does. Just boggles my mind.

On a side note, I noticed to the side of that piece one about the Mass. teen who killed his teacher. This one hit close to home on many levels. It was only a couple towns away from me, my wife was a teacher (safely retired now), and my sister-in-law was on the jury. I hadn't heard what the sentence was. Forty years before parole. Phew. I wish it was more. Unfortunately, in prison he won't get any help for what clearly is some psychosis, even though it wasn't proven. Sociopath, psychopath, I'm not sure, but to do what he did and behave the way he has is chilling.

That was a terrible case. I can't imagine sitting on that jury and having to go through all the horrendous details of the rape and murder.

Gosh, yes, I read about that in the news here. Utterly horrible. Gosh, your SIL will have nightmares forever!

I can imagine she would be traumatized after having to see and hear the details!

For the longest time in my teaching career, I was never fearful in school. I'd stay for hours after school to work with kids, to correct papers, work with the yearbook staff. Towards the end of my career, though, I never stayed unless there were a lot of students involved in what I was doing and there were other staff in the area. It just wasn't safe any more. And I taught in a solid middle-class community with a lot of second-generation families. Times and attitudes changed. There isn't as much of a social leash on kids.

Oh, yes! I tear up every time I think of those poor babies and the teachers who tried to save them. It's become a sick tradition of this country that we can't seem to stop. It's insanity.

American politics. Well. Or, rather, not-well.

Pretty terrifying for the whole world, to be honest. Some things (e.g. reversing Roe v Wade) will only affect Americans, but an awful lot of trade policies, finger-on-the-nukes, etc impact everyone in every country.

There is widespread disbelief that Trump could have been elected at all, and horror at what this says about where America is at and where it's heading.
