I wasn't being frivolous when I said the eggnog was a crime against humanity. Athena and I knew we could not drink it ourselves, and we decided we could not in good conscience give it to anyone, so it went down the drain. Maybe it will help kill the bacteria at the sewage treatment plant.

Benne seeds are sesame seeds. The cookies have a lovely, delicate nutty flavor. The first batch, I baked on a greased baking sheet. They are insistent on not releasing easily from the pan. The second batch, I used parchment instead of baking spray and they released much more easily.

Ah, sesame seeds. I'd never heard the term benne seeds before.

Care to share the recipe?

Also, if anyone has recipes for stuff that calls for a lot of honey.... we'll be harvesting in a month or two, I reckon, and ought to end up with something like a hundred pounds of the stuff!

I always share recipes. That's the other fun part of cooking and, besides, I would not have the recipe had Sacchi not shared it!

Benne Seed Cookies
(Preheat oven to 350)

1 cup toasted sesame seeds (in the South a sesame seed is called a benne seed. Toast them on a cookie sheet in the oven until lightly golden)
1/2 cup melted butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla

Combine all ingredients. Beat until smooth and creamy.

Drop by 1/2 teaspoon on lightly greased cookie sheet.

Bake 8-10 minutes. (Watch carefully as these bake as they cook quickly once they begin to cook and will burn easily).

Cool slightly; then remove from cookie sheet and finish cooling on a wire rack. These are very, very thin, lacey-type, yummy, crispy cookies.

My note: I prefer using parchment paper to greasing the cookie sheet. The cookies release more easily from the parchment.
