In what way, Wild? Surely you get time to lie on the beach to read?

Actually, the weather hasn't been that good for the beach these last days. Too windy or cloudy part of the time. And the maximum temperatures are now in the 20s. It even rained yesterday.

An upbeat, entertaining article about what some of y'all are facing: a blizzard.
Cities need blizzards every few years to flush out incompetents, expose incipient dysfunction and generally stress-test the fabric of civilization. Like war, illness and poker, snow ruthlessly reveals true character.

And, gloriously if briefly, it hides everything else — the plastic grocery bags and mini-marts and dog poop and salt-grimed Toyotas and sundry disorder of modernity. Watching the quotidian American crudscape transform into a fairy-tale kingdom is a legitimate wonder. Name another disaster that leaves the afflicted region more attractive in its wake.

Then there's this: Dear Mid-Atlantic of these United States of America.

As a blizzard, this storm failed. Winds only occasionally got to blizzard force, and it dropped only a bit more than 9 inches of the fluffy stuff. It was bitter cold, but that didn't matter because we never lost power. This was no challenge at all to our survival skills. The folks in DC and New York didn't fare as well.

We ended up with a couple inches of wind-packed snow, but that, alas, was too much for my back. I'm cozying up to a heating pad today.

I understand that pain! I gave up shoveling anything when I turned 70. And I won't let Athena do it because then I feel guilty. The boys next door do a great job.

I'm glad y'all didn't get slammed the way DC did!

That was thanks to the winds blowing south from Canada. They kept the storm far enough offshore that we didn't get slammed too.
