Sorry. ;) Alice was an awesome woman and deserves to have her picture on office walls.

She lobbied for an Equal Rights Amendment for women back in the early 20s. Unfortunately, we still don't have one.

Yes, I know :-(.

I am currently reading a book on the history of feminism (centered mostly in the USA) Christine Stansell's The Feminist Promise, and I am finding all kinds of fascinating women I had never heard of such as Belva Lockwood. Not to mention knowing a lot more about other women I had vaguely heard of such as the Grimké sisters. I warmly recommend the book.

Google doodle honours Beatrice Tinsley, one of New Zealand's most gifted astronomers

Beatrice Tinsley is one of New Zealand's most uncelebrated celebrities. Daughter of a one-time mayor of New Plymouth, she overcame almost insuperable odds to become a scientist and professor of astronomy at Yale University.

Yay for Kiwi women! Sadly, it takes Google to acquaint me with their existence....

Well, it's good that they are being acknowledged at last.

Other than Baker and Sylvia Ashton Warner, I knew of no NZ women. And it is about time that all these incredible women are made known and acknowledged.

It's amazing how someone like that can work her whole life on an aspect of daily life like nutrition and quietly affect the health of a nation.
