Looks like your monitor has been having a bit of rough sex. Some very, very little man/woman/whoever need to trim its fingernails.

No, I didn't mention that. That might scare him away and I may need him again! He straightened out the mail problem by creating another copy of my proofrdr ID with the same settings that both sent and received e-mail, then deleted the one that had the same damned settings but wouldn't send mail. Why? He doesn't know, but he fixed it, so I'm happy. Not too happy about the pixel problem which is now 4 times the length and growing. He tried a couple of things, but the pixels are degrading. I'll put up with it for as long as I can stand it, then I'll get another one. It's given me 8 years; that's not too bad.

Yes, it seems the time to buy a new monitor has arrived :).

8 years is pretty darned good these days, Proof. They don't build things like they used to. Roman roads? Still in use. Yesterday's iPad? Throw it out and get a new one!

Glad your little man fixed your mail problem. Yeah, sometimes programs can be infuriating in that you see different behaviour for what appears to be exactly the same settings. What might have happened is some piece of information you can't see got set to a bum number. If in down, take it down and start again.

BTW you chickened out on mentioning the theory to your little man? Good grief, how could he have possibly looked at you askance if you'd said "one of my imaginary friends suggests the problem might be rough sex..."

I could never do anything like that to poor John. He'd be blushing more than I and I'd probably never see him again!
